The initiative is aimed at strengthening security measures in casinos, ensuring that operators comply with legal obligations and imposing fines on minors who violate casino access laws.
A Stricter Stance on Underage Gambling
Liquor & Gaming NSW (L&GNSW) has initiated a comprehensive compliance operation to prevent underage gambling and alcohol consumption at casinos during the festive season. This initiative aims to safeguard minors and uphold the state’s strict regulatory standards.
Zero Tolerance for Underage Gambling
Minors caught violating these regulations face severe consequences, including hefty fines of up to AU$4,400, forfeiture of gambling winnings, and bans from casinos until they reach the legal age of 18.
Casino operators are also obligated to implement rigorous measures to prevent underage access. These measures include:
Strict ID Checks: Implementing thorough identity verification procedures for all patrons.
Staff Training: Ensuring staff are well-trained to recognize and prevent underage gambling.
Enhanced Security Measures: Implementing robust security protocols to monitor casino premises and deter underage entry.
A Focus on Responsible Gambling
The L&GNSW’s compliance operation is part of a broader effort to promote responsible gambling and protect vulnerable individuals. The regulator has been actively working to strengthen regulations and enforce compliance with industry standards.
In addition to addressing underage gambling, L&GNSW has also focused on implementing measures to minimize gambling harm, such as mandatory staff training and the relocation of ATMs away from gaming areas.
By taking a proactive approach to regulatory enforcement, L&GNSW aims to create a safer and more responsible gaming environment for all.
